Happy Halloween!!

My sister's buck & doe was a huge amount of work, but I think it was fairly successful! There was lots of food, there were all sorts of games and contests, and a good number of familiar faces! I was thoroughly impressed with many of the costumes that I saw (some of my favourites were Spock from Star Trek and Leeloo from The Fifth Element!). Sammi was a pirate vixen, my dad was a scary skeleton, my sister was a dark pixie, my brother was a knight and my sister-in-law was an Amazon warrior.

Not only was my costume a success in not being skanky, it was a success in a costume contest! I dressed up as Link (from the Legend of Zelda video games, pictured above if you don't know him). I already had the Hylian Shield, which my big brother made me (yep, by hand!) a few Christmases ago, and the clothing was an eBay purchase from an independent seller in China.

Given more time I would have loved to make it myself or at least alter it. But overall I was SO pleased to wear it. I was able to be modest and silly, not self-consciously re-adjusting iffy hemlines every few minutes. AND I won a bucket of treats in the costume contest!! Next year I will get a better head-start. But what fun!

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween tonight. Be nice to trick-or-treaters, brush your teeth after yummy sweets and please don't blow up our new mailbox this year... I'm serious! It's a really nice one!
